Cross Cultural Issues in Business Ethics Simon Webley, Research Director, Institute of Business Ethics The rapid growth of international business has raised difficult questions for multinational companies trying to bridge cultural and regulatory gaps. Are a corporation’s values applicable in every region of the world they operate in? Does the code of ethics/conduct have to be adjusted to meet local customs and sensibilities? What happens when local laws and regulations differ, for instance, on health and safety standards? This session will share experiences on what works, and what does not, and give attendees practical and employable tips on how both corporate and local ethics and compliance programs should be structured to address these questions. In addition, information will be shared on best practices for developing and operating local ethics offices and helplines.
