Making the Business Case for Anti-corruption Initiatives Michael Pedersen, Global Leadership Fellow, World Economic Forum’s Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI) Corruption, the abuse of entrusted power for private gain, distorts markets, stifles economic growth, debases democracy, and undermines the rule of law. Recent World Bank figures indicate that every year US $1 Trillion are paid in bribes. Companies demonstrating leadership in the area of anti-corruption often end up doing so at a competitive disadvantage. This session will explore these issues and more, including how companies, investors, governments and other relevant stakeholders, individually as well as collectively, can provide recognition and a competitive advantage to companies demonstrating strong anti-corruption leadership. Participants will be given practical tools to employ in strengthening their own anti-corruption and bribery programs in the U.S. and abroad.
